Welcome to Gull Cottage! We hope that you enjoy your stay. Now for some information on the cottage.
Door Locks – It is very easy to lock yourself out of the cottage! If this happens there is a key under the house just inside the door to the right of the steps to the deck. It is located on a hook just inside the door under the house to the right of the steps. Code to lockbox to the left of the front door is 0947.
Wi-Fi – The Wi-Fi network is gullcottage and the password is River1975. The R is in caps.
Towels – Extra towels are inside the chest in the living room.
Sheets, Blankets – Extra sheets for the downstairs bed (Queen) are in the bottom drawer of the white dresser in the downstairs bedroom. Extra sheets for the upstairs bed (Full) and click clack sofa (Full) are in the bottom drawer of the white chest with the TV upstairs. Blankets are in the chest in the open closet upstairs and in the tops of the closets in the downstairs bedroom.
Couch – This is a click clack couch and will let down to a full size bed by lifting up the bottom and pulling it towards you.
Pantry – Located in the closet by the front door. You are welcome to use whatever we leave.
Pots and Pans – Located in the drawer of the stove.
Kitchen Corner Cabinet – Contains crock pot, blender, toaster, cutting boards, more pots and storage containers, rice cooker, light bulbs etc.
Condiments – Please feel free to use any condiments and other cooking items that have been left in the cabinet above the stove, in the pantry, and in the fridge.
Silverware – Silverware and various eating and cooking utensils are located in the three drawer chest next to the sofa.
Table – The dining table will extend to seat 6 if needed. It is a butterfly table and the leaf comes from underneath when the table is extended.
Iron and Small Ironing Board – The iron is under the corner cabinet in the kitchen and a small ironing board is beside the refrigerator.
Broom and Stick Vac – The broom and stick vac are located beside the refrigerator.
Heat – The baseboard heat in the living area is controlled by the thermostat on the wall above the couch. The baseboard heat in the bedroom downstairs is controlled by a small knob on the heater. This knob is on the end of the heater nearest the chest of drawers. Turn the knob clockwise to turn it on and adjust the heat. The Franklin Stove in the living area has 2 switches on the back – one turns on the heat and one turns on the artificial flame. You can enjoy the flame without the heat in the summer!
Cooling – One of the best ways to cool the house on a mild day is to open up all of the windows, upstairs and downstairs, and put the box fan at the end of the sofa in one of the windows at the end of the house nearest the pond. Close the window on the fan to hold it in place. There are also small fans in the living room beside the Franklin Stove and in the downstairs bedroom. Hot days, which are few, may require use of the window air conditioners.
Blinds – There is a little hook beside each window to hold the cord out of the way.
Canoe – Have fun in the canoe but be careful! The key to the lock on the canoe is in the wooden box on the table at the front door. Life jackets are in the closets in the downstairs bedroom. The paddles are under the house accessed by the small door to the right of the steps to the deck.
Folding Lawn Chairs – There are two folding lawn chairs in the closet in the downstairs bedroom
Flowers – The outdoor flowers would enjoy a drink of water if it doesn’t rain. There is a hose under the house accessed by the small door to the right of the steps to the deck and the turn on valve is behind the back door.
Grass – The grass will be cut every other Thursday morning.
Trash – Put your bagged trash in the two large black trash cans beside the house and take it to the road. Trash pick up is on Thursdays.
Pets – Please take care with your small pets when they are outside. We have osprey, owls, and fisher cats around the area that may be harmful to small animals. Do not leave them unattended. Dogs must be on a leash. Thank you for cleaning up after your dogs as you walk down the street. Our neighbors will appreciate this thoughtfulness.
Simone the Seagull – Five years ago, one of our daughters started feeding and named our pet seagull, Simone. She has been back every year since. She will land on the rail of the deck and walk out to her bowl to be fed. We feed her Puppy or Cat Chow. We will leave a bag in the pantry by the front door. You can continue to do this or shoo her off. Just try not to feed her friends which are larger gulls and not as polite.
